The Marriage Statistics Show We're Committed!
That's right. Marriage statistics over the past few decades reveal that more married couples are committed to staying together. According to Divorcemag.com, the divorce rate in 2005 was 3.6 (per 1000 people). And according to Infoplease.com, the rate in 2008 was the same. That's the lowest rate since 1970! Coincidentally, the marriage rate in 2005 was 7.5 (per 1000 people), a little lower than in 2004. The actual number of marriages in 2005 was 2,230,000...that was a lot of cake! But it shows we're still looking for and finding true love...and a great reason to party!
The only statistic that stayed relatively stable is the average marriage age. In the 21st century, we seem to be ready to settle down around the age of 27 for men, and around the age of 26 for women. That age range has increased over the last 10 years from 26 and 25, respectively. Another interesting fact is the percentage of the US population, by sex, that's either married or divorced. In 2006, 59.9% of men were married and 9.1% were divorced. Of women, 56.5% were married and 11.6% were divorced (Infoplease.com). Of course, you have to temper these marriage facts with the human experience. We don't get married only to divorce later. No, we marry with a lifetime commitment in mind. The stats speak for themselves...we're winning the war for marriage!
Okay, take a look at these simple marriage tips to see how you can avoid unnecessary problems in your marriage.
